April in Gamecan

May 10, 2023

April was a month to remember at Gamecan. We were busy participating in all sorts of events, hosting visitors at our office, learning new skills, and receiving recognition for our work.

Innovation Conference MELT
Our CEO, Marten Palu, was among the speakers at this year’s MELT Conference, a forward-looking inspiration conference. Alongside 22 other speakers, Marten discussed the new and exciting changes that have emerged over the past year and what doors they have opened for us in the future.

Work Expo
We participated in the Estonian Unemployment Insurance Fund Work Expo, where we had the opportunity to meet job seekers and showcase our company to potential candidates. People were really interested in our Full Cycle Game Academy and the job offers we had.

Gamedev Meetup #7
At Gamedev Meetup #7, organized by Gamedev Estonia, our Senior Technical Game Designer Vahab held a very interesting talk about Machinations, a practical game design tool. Our team networked with other game developers and discussed the latest tools and technologies in the industry. We had so much fun and enjoyed meeting new people. Until the next meetup!

First-Aid Training
We hosted a comprehensive first-aid training session at our office with Eesti Punane Rist Pärnumaa Selts. Several of our team members passed the CPR exam, making us all feel safer in case of an emergency.

Welcoming Pärnu County Development Centre
We had a great visit from Pärnu County Development Centre to our office where we geeked out about our future plans and our very own Full Cycle Game Academy. We discussed the issues of finding talent in the game industry, what to do about it, and discussed Pärnu’s future. We’re grateful for the support and look forward to continuing to work together to grow the gaming industry in our area.

The Brackmann Award
We are so proud to announce that our CEO Marten Palu has been recognized as the best CEO in Pärnu County! This award recognizes Marten’s contributions to the growth and success of our company. Marten has led Gamecan to achieve remarkable results, and his passion for driving growth and innovation has inspired our team to new heights. We’re honored to have him as our CEO and look forward to continuing our journey together as a team!

Local Newspaper Feature
We were thrilled to be featured on the front page of Pärnu Postimees, they wrote an article about our school Full Cycle Game Academy. The article was about our unique game development education opportunity where students can learn from our own experienced Unreaeal Engine specialist. The Academy’s goal is to provide the students with all the knowledge, experience, and tools to ensure them a spot in the game industry right after graduation. This autumn, the Academy will accept 150 spots in five different curriculums. There are already applications from 30 different countries around the world, for example, Ethiopia and South Korea. Thank you for the coverage, Pärnu Postimees!

Gamedev Awards 22
Several of our team members attended the Game Development World Championship 2022 Awards Show celebrating the thousands of developers who took part in the championship. The Game Development World Championship (GDWC) is an annual global competition for game developers of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds and this year it culminated in an Awards Show in Tallinn, Estonia. Read more about it here.

Taltech visit
The Head of the Lifelong Learning Department Open University at TalTech, Hanno Tomberg paid us a visit. Together with Marten, Maret, Tuuli, and Kadri, we discussed future plans and possible collaboration. Feeling excited and optimistic about what the future holds!

Yoga Wednesdays
Introducing a new benefit for our team – Yoga Wednesdays! Every week our talented yoga teacher Tiina will come to the office and help us relax, stretch, and unwind in the middle of the week. We are always trying to improve the wellness opportunities available for the team, so this is a win-win situation to take care of our team’s mental and physical well-being.

Gearing up the Office
We understand the importance of creating an inspiring workspace that promotes creativity, reduces stress, and fosters a sense of well-being.
Our team purchased a variety of plants, so thanks to our People Operations Manager, Lisenn, who strategically placed the plants around, the office is so much better now.
